Creating a Facebook Account

Creating a Facebook account is simple and easy. As soon as the Facebook homepage loads, there is an application to create an account on the right side of the screen, ready to be filled out. Start by entering your first and last name in the spaces provided. Next, enter an e-mail that you can be easily reached at, then create a password. Try not to use any personal information and pick an alphanumeric code that is easily remembered. After entering this information, use the drop down menus to choose your gender and date of birth. Lastly, Click "Sign Up".

This next section is a security check section. The code you will be entering will tell the site that you are a real human being. Enter in the two words with the appropriate capitalization and characters. Remember to put a space in between the two phrases. If you're having trouble reading the words, you can click on the highlighted link entitled "an audio CAPTCHA" to hear another phrase. After you have entered the information needed to continue, click "Sign Up" once more.

This will take you to a three step process. This process will allow you to customize you Facebook information, add friends and add a picture to your main profile. If any of the steps provided are of no use to you, you can click on the "Skip this step" link at the bottom, right hand side at anytime to move onto the next step.

Creating a Facebook Account

The first step will have you adding friends and family to your Facebook. Based on your Internet Protocol address, or IP, Facebook can determine your location and suggest people you may be interested in adding. Simply click on "Add friend" if you'd like to add someone, or click "Ignore" to remove them from this section completely. Friends can always be added later using the search engine provided after signing up. When you're done adding friends, you will automatically be taken to the next step.

Step Two will have you add your schools and work information so you can join a Facebook Network. Enter in your secondary school and college, or university. Next, use the drop down menus to identify what year you left. If you are employed and want to make your place of employment public, enter in the company you work for in the "Company" box, then hit the "Save and Continue" button. This will take you to another contact adding section, where you can add people who attend or have attended your secondary school, college, university or place of employment. Again, repeat Step One's process to add these contacts to your friends list on Facebook.

The final step, Step Three, will allow you to add a photo of yourself. You can take a new picture using the "Take a Photo" with a web camera, or upload a previously taken photo from your computer. If you are uploading a picture from your computer, a box will open inside of Facebook. Click on the "Browse" button, select the folder the picture is located in on your computer, and click on the picture you'd like to use. If you are taking a new picture, this will also open a new window in Facebook. Click on "Save picture" to take a picture of yourself. When you are done adding a photograph of yourself, click "Save and Continue".

Check your e-mail and click on the link provided to verify your account is real. You will then be taken to your new Facebook homepage, and you're done. Have fun adding friends, posting links, and connecting to others with one of the largest social networking sites on the web!

Social Network Benefits

Social Networking of course is in its infancy, at least to web site traffic generators, so what are the so far under-penetrated benefits of social networking?

Lower Costs

It is significantly cheaper to employ online social networking strategies than to pay for advertising. When you social network, you can prescreen potential customers. You learn what your prospects like and what they don't. That personal relationship you gain when you connect with your potential customer is more valuable than what you would get had you advertised. Advertising is impersonal: the "one size fits all" concept does not seem to work anymore.

Social Network Benefits

Credibility and Trust

Connecting with prospects on a personal level builds trust and credibility. A general rule of thumb is to offer your services, expertise or help before you ask for it. It is acceptable to promote your services when asked. If you're not careful, your attempts could be considered spam. Instead, wait for the opportunities to present themselves instead of forcing a situation.

It's Who You Know

When you socialize, you meet others who know others. How are you going to meet the president of a large corporation? You start by talking to his friends. You ask your associates if they know someone who is connected with him And on and on.

Social networking relationships are supposed to benefit both parties. Never take more than you give. When the opportunity presents itself, don't be afraid to ask your contact to introduce you to a prospect. The old saying rings true: it's not what you know; it's who you know.

There are many reasons to employ social networking as a marketing tactic. Ensure that you have extra time to spend. While it's true that the upfront costs are less, this method takes up a lot of time in research and building relationships.

Top 10 Job Searching Tips

Top Ten Job Searching Tips
How many of these have you read? Here we go again, but this time I am concentrating on those matters which have emerged over the last two to three years, that we often neglected or failed to use in the past; mainly it's to do with new technology.

1. Get a professional email address.

Ditch the babyangel@gmail.com. Now is the time to professionalise yourself, use your proper name or professional name.

Top 10 Job Searching Tips

2. Google yourself.

Sounds egotistic doesn't it? But just in case you wrote something many years ago, and it raises its head to bite you in the foot, it is better to check what is out there on you in cyber space. Also while we are at it, blog your email address, telephone number and address as well, all these can leave a digital footprint exposing yourself to other information .

3. Add your email address to your CV or resume.

How many times do I see this omission?

4. Start blogging.

This is a free way of getting yourself known and building your profile.

5. Register on online job sites.

There are many: seek.com, TradeMe/jobs.co.nz, and also check out your local newspaper online listings.

6. Use social networking sites to your advantage.

Make a special professional Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Bebo etc account specifically to your work environment, keep your personal social networks to your friends.

7. Network.

Join societies, organisations and clubs associated to your career. Check out the Yellow Pages and online directories to see what is available, then network with these people.

8. Specialize - Become a Subject Matter Expert.

A sophisticated society has many specialist roles, therefore, the more specialised you are or can become, the more expertise you can provide, and more value to an employer's team. But don't forget to be a generalist in all areas connected with your career.

9. Lead from your strengths.

If you know what you are good at, or above average, or just brilliant at ... then move from that area first. If you are good at public speaking then use that as your primary form of accentuating your strengths.

10. Mitigate your weaknesses.

Similar to number nine. Play down your weaknesses. Avoid (especially in those first couple of meetings) those things that you are not so good at, or generally don't like doing.

Seven Layers of ISO OSI Model

The ISO OSI model are explained below. The seven layers of the OSI model are:

Application Presentation Session Transport Network Antiqua">Data Link Physical
1 Application layer:

This layer provides a means for the user to access information on the network through an application. Many user applications that need to communicate over the network interact with the Application layer protocol directly. The user applications are not part of OSI Application layer, use the networking services offered by the networking protocol suite. Application layer functions typically include identifying communication partners, and determining availability of required resources. Some examples of application layer implementations include Telnet, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).

Seven Layers of ISO OSI Model

2 Presentation layer:

Presentation layer converts local host computer data representations into a standard network format for transmission on the network. On the receiving side, it changes the network format into the appropriate host computer's format so that data can be utilized independent of the host computer. ASCII and EBCDIC conversions, cryptography, and the like are handled here.
Examples of Presentation layer coding and conversion schemes include common data representation formats, conversion of character representation formats, common data compression schemes, and common data encryption schemes.

Presentation layer implementations are not typically associated with a particular protocol stack. Some well-known standards for video include QuickTime and Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG). QuickTime is an Apple Computer specification for video and audio, and MPEG is a standard for video compression and coding.

3. Session layer:

The session layer establishes, manages, and terminates communication sessions. Communication sessions consist of service requests and service responses that occur between applications located in different network devices. These requests and responses are coordinated by protocols implemented at the session layer. Some examples of session-layer implementations include AppleTalk's Zone Information Protocol (ZIP), and Decent Phase Session Control Protocol (SCP).

4.Transport layer:

Transport layer is responsible for providing reliable service between the hosts. Upper layer datagrams are broken down into manageable datagrams and then appropriate header information (such as sequence number, port number, etc.) is added to the datagram before passing it on to the Network layer. Two frequently used transport protocols are the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and the UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

Important features of Transport layer:

Transport layer ensures reliable service. Breaks the message (from sessions layer) into smaller datagrams, and appends appropriate unit header information. Responsible for communicating with the Session layer
Important features of TCP/UDP:

TCP/IP widely used protocol for Transport/Network layers TCP: (Transport Control Protocol) TCP ensures that a packet has reached its intended destination by using an acknowledgement. If not, it retransmits the lost messages. Hence, TCP is called a connection oriented protocol. UDP (Universal Data gram Protocol): UDP simply transmits packets over the internet. It does not wait for an acknowledgement. It is the responsibility of upper layer protocols to ensure that the information had reached the intended partner(s). Hence, UDP is often called connectionless protocol. Application programs that do not need connection-oriented protocol generally use UDP.
5. Network layer:

Network layer is responsible for the routing of packets through the entire network. The layer uses logical addressing for this purpose. Note that the physical address (like MAC address) keeps changing from hop to hop when a packet travels from source to destination. As a result, an address that doesn't change is required to ensure continuity between hops. This is nothing but logical address. For IP networks, IP address is the logical address; and for Novell network, IPX address is the logical address, and so on. This layer also provides for congestion control, and accounting information for the network. IP (Internet Protocol) is an example of a network layer protocol.

6. Data link layer:

Data link layer provides delivery of information frames between communicating partners. This layer is responsible for flow regulation, error detection and correction, and framing of bits for transmission. The network data frame is made up of checksum, source address, destination address, and the data itself. The largest frame size that can be sent is known as the maximum transmission Unit (MTU).

Important features of Data link layer:

Logical Link Control (LLC): Defines how data is transferred over the cable and provides data link service to the higher layers. Medium Access Control (MAC): Controls media access by regulating the communicating nodes using pre-defined set of rules. (i.e. Token passing, Ethernet [CSMA/CD] all have MAC sub-layer protocol).

Different Data link layer protocols define different network and protocol characteristics, including physical addressing, network topology, error notification, sequencing of frames, and flow control. Physical addressing (as opposed to logical addressing) defines how devices are addressed at the data link layer. The protocols used in Data link layer are SLIP, PPP, and CSLP.

7. Physical layer:

This is the bottom-most layer of the OSI model. The Physical layer handles the bit-level communications across the physical medium. The physical medium could be made up of wired electrical signals, or light, or radio (wireless) signals. Physical layer specifications define characteristics such as media, data rates, maximum transmission distances, and physical connectors.

Some of the important standards that deal with physical layer specifications are:

RS-232(for serial communication lines), X.21, EIA 232, and G730.

Physical layer and Data link layer implementations can be categorized as either LAN or WAN specifications.

What Are the Effects of Social Networking Websites?

"Words can't describe me", is how Adnan Patrawala, 16 yr old teenager from Mumbai, India had described himself on his Orkut profile. However, his kidnappers and murderers got to know a little more of him and ensnared him into a trap which ultimately led to the death of the young boy. This is perhaps an extreme example of the social impact of these social networking sites such as Orkut, Facebook, MySpace and Friendster on today's youth. But there is no denying its presence or its effects in our lives and minds today.

Often these days when we make new friends we do not ask, "What's your number?" Or "What's your email id?" Instead we ask, "What's your MySpace"? or "Are you on Orkut?" Such is the impact of these sites on our lives .The way we speak, the way we interact and the way we think is changing. Words such as scrapping, blogging, teasers---which a few years back wouldn't have made any sense to anybody; but today it's being used with so much spontaneity.

As a matter of fact, Google even has links to sites, which gives the world's most popular acronyms. It is amusing but that is the way it is.

What Are the Effects of Social Networking Websites?

However, these sites fulfill a very basic criterion of humans. It is that of communication. People living in extreme corners of the world are seen to be getting married, friends from far-off places are able to keep in touch with each other and lovers from two parts of the world stay connected with each other's emotional needs. These help us make new friends, stay in touch with the old ones and let us know more about the persons we care... their likes, dislikes, interests and emotions.

There is an element of addictiveness in these sites and the youth are indeed getting endeared more and more into this addiction. The most appealing thing among these sites is that they provide a platform for the individuals to express their views, gives them the freedom of choice and expression... from anti-war campaigns to global warming issues, from Harry potter fan clubs to Osama bin Laden hate clubs... there is everything for everyone to share and speak about.

What else could be more appealing than the thought of being heard not just by your group of friends but to the whole wide world. And that is where I feel these sites are here to stay. It just emphasizes the fact that man is a social being and shall always remain so.

What Are the Known Glutathione Side Effects?

Glutathione is also important to physically active people. Many world-class athletes are discovering that well-maintained glutathione levels give them the edge over their competitors, bringing greater strength and endurance, decreased recovery time from injury, less muscle pain and fatigue, and muscle-promoting activity.

The side effects of taking glutathione depend on the form you are taking it in, and the side effects maybe direct or indirect.

Practitioners of complementary medicine have long advocated the use of milk thistle for liver problems. It turns out that this herb works by modestly elevating glutathione levels.

What Are the Known Glutathione Side Effects?

Drugs that are precursors (building blocks) for glutathione. Some include S-Adenosyl-Methione, which is expensive and can cause gastrointestinal problems, while ornithine decarboxylase, procyteine, and oxothiazolidine carboxylate both are enzymes and limited in their production of GSH in the body.

American physicians seeking ways to raise a patient's glutathione levels can open the standard Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) and find an options i.e., the pharmaceutical drug NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine), but has significant side effects, which include its efficacy or usefulness peaks very quickly, and has to be administered several times per day, which causes toxicity. This is a direct glutathione side effect.

Generally it is considered to be free of side-effects. Neither untoward side-effects, nor interactions with oral administration reported even in prolonged use. It is SAFE. Classified as Food Supplement not an herbal. Made from genetically synthesize molecules. The only reported side- effect is SKIN WHITENING when taken in increased doses by modifying conversion of eumelanin (dark/brown/yellow pigmentation) to phaeomelanin (reddish white pigmentation). This is the main reason why whiter skin is produced. Most dermatologists use it. It is proven to be very safe and effective.

Then there are Co- Factors or substances working synergistically for glutathione production.

Defination of cofactor: A substance, such as a metallic ion or coenzyme, that must be associated with an enzyme for the enzyme to function eg., Selenium, Vitamin C, B6, B12, folic acid, vitamin E, and other micronutrients, are included in the substances called co-factors.

Selenium: The mineral selenium also produces subtle elevations in glutathione by becoming integrated into the enzyme glutathione peroxidase.
Side effects of over doses occur around 400 mcg/day and include hair loss, numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes, and white spots on fingernails and toenails. Selenium overdose leads to an indirect glutathione side effect.
Glutamine: Whether taken orally or intravenously, glutamine supplements raise glutathione concentrations.

Side effects: Completely healthy individuals shouldn't require supplemental glutamine and it can lead to side effects such as gastrointestinal upset. Older people as well as kidney and liver patients should be cautious. Any serious use of this supplement must be monitored by a health professional.

Vitamin E: Like selenium Vitamin E is an antioxidant, a detoxifier, and helps to keep glutathione in its reduced (non-oxidized) state. Dosages up to 400IU are recommended.

Side effects: Excessive intake can be toxic creating gastrointestinal and neurological side-effects.
Silymarin (Milk Thistle): The milk thistle plant, (Silybum marianum, silymarin) has a long history in the treatment of liver problems. It clearly prevents the oxidation of fats and maintains glutathione levels, but possible toxic reactions include gas, cramps and diarrhoea. Liver disease should never be treated without the supervision of a health professional.

"We would like to add... as to date there is no scientific evidence as to the harm or value. It would be best that you discuss it with all on the health care team. There is a theoretical risk in taking the product if you have an organ transplant."

Networking - Making a Good Email Introduction

Networking can mean many things to many professionals depending on the nature of the networking. It can equate to giving and expecting nothing in return. Etiquette and manners are useful tools for networking for success. Professionals can build great business relationships, expand their networks and help their business grow by referring others rather than themselves. An effective means for offering referrals is through emails. Emails are a subtle form of communication that allows the recipient to respond during any time of the day and give the proper and accurate information and resources to their business counterparts. As the middle man, you can properly introduce friends and colleagues and build your clientele/referral base.

Listed below are some important tips to consider when making business or personal contacts.

Spell Check

Networking - Making a Good Email Introduction

When a professional has agreed to introduce two or more colleagues for business or social purposes, the business professional should draft a concise and meaningful message and proof-read. Grammar should be correct and all names of persons should be spelled properly. This can build your credibility and show that you pay attention to detail as well as respect others.

Background Info.

The person making the introduction should set the stage for how all parties know of each other. Be specific and give details about personal and professional associations so that everyone can feel comfortable with each other. Another good idea is to include educational backgrounds or professional and social interests of your business counterparts. This information can be helpful for future reference or later business and social opportunities.

Company Info.

The professional should then describe the business, company or organization of each person. They should make sure to provide the most useful information for making the right connection for business success. New initiatives, new products, training programs, latest technologies which can be of interest to their business counterpart should be highlighted in the email message. Your business counterparts should be able to identify the significance of working and collaborating together for profit or growth.

Sealing the Deal

After the introduction via email has been made, the professional should encourage both parties to connect or reach out to one another. The professional should provide the proper and appropriate contact info for all parties as well as their own information. Also encourage both parties to follow up and ask for assistance when needed.

Social Networking - The Benefits of Social Networking

For years, it was an accepted belief that, "it's not what you know, it's who you know" was the way to excel. But with the advent of the internet and, more specifically social networking websites, your ability to reach your target market is almost limitless. Social networking allows you to reach a global market and significantly increases your chances of success. While social networking can be beneficial, it's important to focus your social networking on your target market. I love writing and reading the writings of others, so I network my writings on blogs, forums, and websites for writers. My networking has allowed me to interact with fellow authors and publishers as well as receive valuable reviews on my writings. But joining the online social network is the easy part. Once you join, you have to stay actively involved in discussions in order to establish yourself as someone that is willing to learn as well as teach.

Online social networking is an investment in your future, and with any investment, it will take time for you to see the "fruits of your labor." Many people join blogs and forums and leave one line comments and sit back and wait for the members to come to you. It doesn't work that way. In order to be considered as credible, you have to leave quality comments and suggestion. If asked to review someone's writing or provide your thoughts on another member's idea, don't just say "it's good". Get into the weeds and tell the member why you think it's good. When you expound on your comments, it may spark thoughts in other members as well. There is more to gain by all parties when you do.

The next thing you should do is share your thoughts. Don't be afraid to put your ideas out there, no matter how farfetched you may think they are. Members of blogs and forums, for the most part, are very respectful of each others work or ideas. Putting you ideas out there for all the members to see will get you some valuable comments and suggestions and will also help you establish some credibility. In time, you will become the "go to" person which could increase your sales or get your ideas noticed.

Social Networking - The Benefits of Social Networking

Lastly, you should focus on becoming a resource to others. If all you're doing is asking for help, people may eventually avoid you because you're not bringing anything "to the table". You may be a novice and do not have the skills or knowledge to offer much, but everyone has something to offer. I like writing, and while I don't have the experience that others have, I like to make myself available for article or book reviews. Reviewing will allow you to expand your knowledge as well as establish a relationship with others in your profession. Make the most out of online social networking and I am confident your efforts will pay off.
